Released 08/21/2015 Rated: R
This movie is amazing. I feel like the critics who gave the film a bad rating just weren’t the target audience. How did this movie not “live up to its potential”? It was great! The action kept coming, the comedy wasn’t overdone, the drama was believable, there was a nice twist, and the actors were spot-on. Finally, a stoner movie that proves they don’t all have to be borderline retarded to get laughs. It’s not perfect, but it’s my new favorite.
The CIA has targeted a former asset —now a stoner in the middle of nowhere— for extermination, believing him to be too dangerous to remain at large. When he proves to be both lethal and evasive, he and his girlfriend find themselves hunted by some unsavory characters all over town.
This movie is a great blend of stoner and secret agent films. It’s not too heavy-handed one way or the other; it’s just a damn good movie. Now, I haven’t seen many stoner films, but I felt that portion of the movie was more realistic than some of what I have seen. I don’t need over-the-top goofy expressions, and they didn’t give me any. Likewise with secret agent half. He doesn’t need to be Jason Bourne, he just has to be believable.
Eisenberg and Stewart were great in their respective roles, and they really had chemistry together. I was actually impressed. They looked like a legitimate couple, and I wanted to see more. They both kicked ass and were not afraid to get a little bloody.
Honestly, I can’t wait to see it again.
